Having arrived in Oakmont, at the foothills of the Stormcrest mountains, you found a small, very friendly, and upscale village. During the course of the exceptional roleplay that took place, here’s a breakdown of what went down:
- Maynild (May), the Innkeep, basically offers to sleep with anyone in the party for a reduced rate or free lodging.
- Leaving Carrie and Alynor at the inn, the party meets Pria, a customer, who takes them to Harvik’s to stable their horses. They find Harvik, a goliath with a traumatic brain injury, who is very nice, albeit slow, and ;;who promises to take exceptional care of their horses
- The party then visits Orsik’s Smithy, where they acquire a few magical arrows/bolts, and order some custom gear. Orsik seems to always draw the ire of his wife, Bolli
- Returning to May, no one is interested, rejecting her, save for Carrie, who stayed behind with Alynor. Carrie strings her along, and tells her that she and Alynor are actually a couple
- Alynor rolls with it and plays along
- Nixi catches a strange interchange between Pria and Bolli, only to find out, after Pria confides in her, that she and Bolli are having an affair, in part because Orsik drinks too much
- Orsik lost a drinking match to Griselda, owner of Quirk’s Marketplace, 2 nights ago and remains bitter and agitated about it
- The party learns that 2 days prior, a man dressed in purple robes made his way through the village. Never stopping, his eyes glowed blue and cold emanated from im. They are convinced this was Radek.
- On returning to the inn, the party learns of Carrie’s new relationship with Alynor. Nyssor is dumbfounded
- Orsik arrives, and he and Nyssor begin drinking. Heavily.
- Rooms are secured, and Carrie continues to lead Maynild on
- Nyssor gets shit-faced drinking with Orsik, who gets triggered when Griselda arrives and mocks him
- Alynor carries him up to his room, where he passes out; Alynor stays for the next hour, just to make sure he’s safe
- Ursa and Griselda have a lengthy conversation about the Cavern of Axiom; Griselda has been there, yet lost half her hand to an attempt to break into it.
- Alynor falls prey to Maynild’s attempts to get him drunk, pouring him three doubleshots of Maynild’s Mayhem. Alynor passes out and the group carries him to his room rather than let May take him (they don’t trust her rapey ways)
- With Orsik passed out drunk in the bar, the party retires for the evening, but not until after Nixi and Ursa follow Pria’s exit and find her cuddled in bed with Bolli;
- With everyone in their rooms, Nyssor wakes up, finds Alynor passed out beside him, and extricates himself quietly
- Nyssory heads downstairs and tells May that Alynor is upstairs waiting for her, so she gives him another room on the house, and promptly closes the door
- Secure in his room and pleased with himself, Nyssor is NOT happy when Natrissa and Carrie, hearing May move down the hall, confront her around potentially taking advantage of Alynor. May leaves dejected.
- Rousing himself shortly thereafter, Alynor realizes his pockets have been picked, as have Carrie’s and the two of the move to confront May
- Finding May alone and fully nude in her bed, Alynor levels his accusations at her, with Carrie backing him up. Alas, May tells a very compelling story and denies the allegations against her
- Left confused by the vitriol and agitation in her denials, they return to their rooms, waking exhausted the next morning having had very little sleep
- The party promptly leaves after May throws them out for the accusations leveled against her (even though she actually DID rob them both)
- The party makes their way on the westerly road toward Kallein, said to be within close proximity to the Cavern of Axiom
- 4 hours into the journey, they encounter Jarlinvingam, a Frost Giant who has claimed these lands. In the ensuing battle Nixi surrounds him with a wall of thorns, which delays him for a few seconds before he shoves through. Despite the multitude of wounds on him from the thorns, he surges forward to attack, only to be killed in short order.
- Throughout the journey, and throughout the fight, some skeletal birds have been circling, and, as the giant falls, a new threat begins its approach
- Charging past the rest, Alynor crests the snow covered hill and finds himself face to face with 4 skeletal undead and 1 very large, and 4 armed, skeleton. Massive damage is dealt to Alynor and he falls, having failed his first death save due to the four attacks from the big undead
- Surging forward, Natrissa, Carrie, and Ursa weigh into the fight, whilst Nyssor takes the ranged attacks on. During the fight, a mysterious , purple robed figure appears with a birdcage, at the outer limits of melee range, and observes silently. Nyssor takes a shot at him, and, when it hits, he disappears
- Alynor fails his second death save and with his blood pooling under him, Carrie dives forward to pour a potion in and save him. It was only then that she realized she did not have such a potion, so she opted to shield him with her own body
- First the large undead fell, and the rest fell soon thereafter, but as Alynor was restored to healthy through Natrissa’s prayers, the two of them, still badly injured, and the rest, stood in shocked silence as six more undead appeared over the ridge line accompanied by the creature in purple.
